In the world of adventure travel,
Eastern Light is unique in its focus on the Annapurna
region, and commitment to just 3 small groups of 12 trekkers
each year. We are dedicated to ensuring those who trek with
us have a deeply personal and enriching experience of all
that Nepal has to offer. Without exception, our group
members have an experience that is far greater than they had
imagined.

Each trek is
personally organized and led by Eastern Light Travels
founder Tim Olmsted. From the first phone call from
interested travelers, to the last farewell at the end of the
trek, Tim oversees every detail. Our support staff in Nepal
is highly experienced and delightful to work with.
Tim lived
and worked in Nepal from 1981 until returning to the States
in 1994. During that time he was a consultant to a variety
of international development and university programs in the
area of cross-cultural living, and maintained a private
mental health practice in the Kathmandu Valley.
In addition, throughout those years, Tim studied the culture
and spiritual traditions of the Himalayas and brings that
knowledge and spirit to the trek.

Those who have traveled with us
have told us that their experience of the country, and the
people they met, as well as the energy of the group itself,
all contributed to making their entire experience
remarkable. To insure that the trip is everything that it
can be, we suggest that group members let us know in advance
what they would like to see and do beyond the trek in the
high country itself. For instance, while in Kathmandu, some
group members want to explore the art and architecture of
the Kathmandu Valley, some want to visit the monasteries and
meet the Buddhist teachers, while still others are
interested in shopping for the remarkable artwork, and
crafts for which Nepal is so famous. All of this is
possible, and more. Tims close ties with all
dimensions of Nepal can open doors, and offer special
glimpses of Nepal that others might never see.

We are Dedicated We are completely dedicated to insuring
that each group member has a wonderful experience. From the
first phone call in the States, to the end of the trip, we
tailor each trip to the particular interests of each
member.
We travel close to the
culture While on the
trail well stay in rustic lodges in the villages along
the way. Besides the great food, cozy atmosphere and
comfortable beds that the lodges offer, it is the best
opportunity to spend time with the local people. Lodge
trekking is clearly the method of choice in this region. Not
only is it far more enjoyable than sleeping in tents, but it
offers a glimpse into the culture that is not otherwise
found. Lodge trekking is also easier on the delicate
ecosystem in the area.
We are
Inexpensive Despite the
fact that we are very specialized and oriented towards
giving full service to just a few trekkers, Eastern Light
treks are priced considerably below what other companies
charge. No other company offers full service, American
guided treks at such a modest price.
We are
Unique All of our efforts
are focused on just 3 groups limited to 12 trekkers each
year. Each trek is personally organized and led by Tim
Olmsted who brings 2 decades of Nepal experience with him.
No other company offers such personal service, from trip
planning to leading the trek itself.
